Obama Completes Bush?

I think there are a lot of ways to interpret this cartoonist's message. There is no caption, and no one is saying anything, save the referee's signal. In the end, though, it seems fitting.  For some reason, you might feel like . . . eh . . . whatever.

We won. So what.

On the other hand, you could react by getting pissed at what the cartoon implies for both sides of the political fence, either giving too much credit to one side or taking too much from the other, ignoring the point that they are wearing the same jersey.  Bush can't complete the pass without Obama. Obama gets the score, but apparently, due to no desire on his part, since the ball gets caught by his mask.

Also, one may question the whole premise of the cartoon:  What is "victory", and who outside the MSM says it has been achieved?

In a strange way, the cartoon captures the essential ambivalence which has spurred the independent voter to the prominent place he/she occupies this election year.  If politics is a voyage, then clearly, we're on a ship of fools.
